Exhibition opening: Runterkommen

As part of the ‘Runterkommen’ series – the Decompression Room, the Cooldown Space, the after-party following Chemnitz 2025 – which, through exhibitions by international O-Spaces, collectively addresses the post-event blues as a productive transition between euphoria, legacy and lethargy, we are opening two new exhibitions on Friday 21 August. We’ll start at 6.00 pm at the GLASKASTEN Gallery with the exhibition BEFORE/AFTER and continue at 7.00 pm at the HINTEN Gallery with the exhibition Invitation to bark beetles and friends.

BEFORE/AFTER

The Dutch artist duo, Matt Plezier and Setareh Noorani, are presenting two site-specific installations at the Glaskasten Gallery. The exhibition questions the distinction between beginning and end and explores rhythm, repetition and time. Its starting point is Chemnitz as a city of transformations and the resulting spaces of freedom: the clubs, techno and hip-hop collectives that emerged in abandoned factories in the 1990s. SMET builds on this through their own experience within self-organised subcultures – as well as the connection to Rotterdam documented in the 1993 HAKKE zine.

Invitation to bark beetles and friends

The FALTE project space from Hanover is a guest at Galerie HINTEN, presenting ‘Invitation to bark beetles and friends’ by Laura Schöning – a cross-city, two-part exhibition project that establishes a connection between Chemnitz and Hanover.
