Julia Mariann Nießlein | SOZIOMANIACS
In its exhibition in August, Galerie Hinten is showing works by a student from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Julia Mariann Nießlein visualises social problems in scenic photography. Her metaphorical arrangements usually harbour a comic element. The motifs balance between grotesque humour and discomfort. The photographer works primarily in analogue medium format.
The motivation behind the two-part photo series SOCIOMANIACS is to explore the dysfunctionality of our age, which Julia Mariann Nießlein diagnoses as having a sociomaniacal character. Conversations with those affected by social anxiety and self-analyses form the basis of symbolic representations of emotional states that are intended to make fear visible and question social norms.
