Runterkommen | Invitation to bark beetles and friends
The Gallery HINTEN is hosting Projektraum FALTE from Hanover, which is presenting *Invitation to bark beetles and friends* by Laura Schöning – a cross-city, two-part exhibition project that establishes a connection between Chemnitz and Hanover.
The Harz Mountains, a geographical and emotional link between the two cities, become the setting for a journey through the East German Anthropocene. An artistic excavation involving photography, installation and moving images, set amidst seemingly dying forests and states of rebirth, Laura’s gaze focuses on what remains – and on what lies beneath the surface.
The bark beetle, crackling away, accompanies the shared process of winding down. The path leads between Bad Harzburg and Wernigerode – with detours, tentative excavations and the prospect of relaxation, curved wooden benches and serenity whilst gazing up at the mild sky.
The exhibition is part of the series ‘Runterkommen’, the ‘Decompression Room’, the ‘Cooldown Space’, the ‘After-hours’ following Chemnitz 2025, which, through exhibitions by international O-Spaces, collectively addresses the post-event blues as a productive transition between euphoria, legacy and lethargy.
