Urban cosiness – Robert Czolkoß

With the new exhibition series "Urbane Wirtlichkeit", Klub Solitaer e.V. is launching a long-term cooperation project with three Düsseldorf art spaces: BLOOM, Aura and Wild Palms, as well as the young Saxon art scene. The focus is on artistic exchange between Chemnitz and Düsseldorf, which have been twin cities for many years.

Urban contrasts as a starting point
The twin cities of Chemnitz and Düsseldorf represent very different realities for artists. While Düsseldorf boasts one of the most renowned art academies in Germany and a professional art market, the Chemnitz scene is strongly characterised by self-organised structures - far removed from market logic, but closely linked to vacancies, neighbourhoods and experimental formats. But the ambivalences of urban transformation are also visible in Düsseldorf: social contrasts, gentrification and processes of displacement come to light.

The concept: two exhibitions always open simultaneously in the gallery spaces of Klub Solitaer e.V. - one from a Düsseldorf gallery and one from a young artistic position that is connected to Saxony, lives there, has studied there or works there. This creates new connections between the two scenes and long-term opportunities for exchange.

In his multimedia practice,Robert Czolkoß examines socially relevant structures, customary orders and artistic production conditions. He sees art not as a spectacle, but as a process that raises questions and makes familiar orders visible. His works unfold spaces for thought and experience that focus on the relationship between the individual and society.
